Although the aging process is normal, we can still influence how our skin will look over time if it is cared for properly.

The good genes we inherit play an important role, but even in their absence the skin is constantly regenerating itself, in about 27 days. If we follow certain rules we can help our skin regenerate faster, keep its radiance and not speed up the aging process.

1. Beauty Sleep

Did you know that during sleep, the skin releases more collagen? Collagen prevents the appearance of wrinkles and makes the complexion brighter. People who don’t get enough sleep have a more lifeless complexion and wrinkles appear more easily.

And when you don’t get enough sleep, it’s not only your skin that suffers, but also your eyes. The dark circles that appear due to lack of sleep can deepen and turn into a deep blue color.

2. Quit Smoking!

Smoking has a negative impact not only on your health but also on your skin. Deprived of various nutrients and oxygen over time, smokers’ skin can change texture and color. This can lead to darker spots on the skin of the face (or hands) and fine wrinkles. Another effect of smoking is increased sensitivity to ultraviolet light.

3. Avoid Chewing Gum and Straws!

Did you know that, along with smoking, both sipping through a straw and chewing gum can lead to wrinkles around the mouth? This is due to forcing the lower part of the face to move excessively, causing the muscles around the mouth to become very active. 4. Remove Make-up Before Bedtime. Always!

What actually happens when we don’t remove our make-up? In the superficial layers of the skin, not only the cosmetics applied but also the dirt accumulated during the day, will accumulate and maintain, clogging the pores. This habit will lead to wrinkles, inflammation or rashes. The skin needs to breathe, especially at night!

5. Protect Yourself From the Sun!

The sun is important in our lives and has many benefits, but it also has negative effects on our skin. Brown spots, sunburn, wrinkles and skin cancer are among the negative effects of prolonged exposure to the sun over a lifetime. It is very important to protect our skin with a sunscreen, not only in summer but also during the rest of the seasons, day after day.

6. Keep your pillow clean!

Perhaps you’ve ever wondered why you wake up the next day with a heavy or pimply complexion? Well, while we sleep our skin sweats (believe it or not) and the pillow absorbs this sweat, our skin’s natural oils and bacteria from our face, which leads to clogged pores, pimples and blackheads.

It is important to change pillowcases as often as possible, possibly using silk pillowcases. Silk helps the skin to retain its natural moisture as it will not absorb any cosmetic products.
