If you have sensitive, acne-prone skin, the thought of slathering on thick, heavy sunscreen could be less than appealing. However, sunscreen should be an incredibly important part of your skin-care routine to ensure your face is protected against skin cancer, premature aging, and hyperpigmentation. When you have skin that is prone to breakouts, below are some tips on choosing a sunscreen that will protect your skin and leave your face feeling great all day.
- Look for oil-free and noncomedogenic products: For daily use, you want a sunscreen that is oil-free. You should also look for the word “noncomedogenic” on the packaging. This means the product does not contain ingredients that will clog pores. Never use sunscreen formulated for your body on your face, as it is much too thick and greasy.
- Opt for fluids, gels, and sprays: Sunscreen lotions are fine for normal to dry skin, but if you have oily skin, you want a product that can be absorbed quickly. A sunscreen gel can be excellent for oily skin, as they are very lightweight and will absorb into your skin without a trace. Sprays can also be a lightweight option for your face, but you want to make sure you are spraying enough on to protect your skin.
- Choose SPF 30 or higher: To adequately protect your face, you want your sunscreen to have at least 30 SPF. This will blog around 97% of UV rays you are exposed to, ensuring your face is protected.
Once you find the right product, be sure to apply daily, even on cloudy or rainy days to ensure your face is protected year-round. If you are having difficulty selecting a product, reach out to our Colorado dermatology specialists by calling (303) 740-4883.
