Dermal fillers are a blessing for anyone looking to boost their confidence without dealing with the cost, recovery time, and risks associated with plastic surgery.
Currently, two dermal fillers stand out from the rest: Juvederm® and Restylane®.
Our staff at Colorado Skin Care uses these dermal fillers to rejuvenate aging skin. Below, we share the differences and similarities between the two.
Juvederm vs Restylane
Juvederm and Restylane both contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that can hold one thousand times its weight in water.
When hyaluronic acid is injected into the skin, the injected area gets a boost in plumpness and hydration that can last anywhere between six months to eighteen months.
The similarities
The FDA approves both injectables for safety and effectiveness. They can be used to target marionette lines and nasolabial folds and plump up areas with volume loss.
Aside from their anti-aging abilities, these two dermal fillers can also achieve plumper, smoother lips.
The differences
Although both Juvederm and Restylane are both made with the same active ingredient, these injectables serve different purposes, due to their differing textures.
Juvederm has a smoother texture, which makes it best suited for addressing lines and wrinkles in tight facial areas.
On the other hand, Restylane is more granular and cohesive, which means it’s better at staying in one place. As a result, Restylane is the superior choice for increasing volume in areas with visible fat loss and sagging skin.
Comparing results
Both dermal fillers come with very few side effects, and both of them are generally well-tolerated.
If you opt for Juvederm, you may have to wait for a couple of weeks for the filler to soften, and you won’t see results right away. When you go with Restylane, you may notice some improvements right after the procedure, but you’ll still need to wait two weeks for the final results.
Juvederm contains more cross-linked hyaluronic acid, which means its results last longer. On average, Juvederm lasts up to 18 months, while Restylane lasts up to 12 months.
Keep in mind that these are averages. There’s no way to tell how quickly your body will absorb the fillers.
Boost your confidence with dermal fillers
Dermal fillers are a convenient way to reduce wrinkles’ appearance and plump up sunken cheeks and thin lips. And unlike surgery, the results of these treatments aren’t permanent, which means you can always increase or lower the dose of hyaluronic acid without suffering lifelong consequences.
