Lip Fillers Dos and Don’ts

What Should You Do Before And After Lip Filler Treatment?

Are you about to get lip filler for the first time? Even though it’s a small nonsurgical procedure it can be intimidating, so here we are with some lip filler dos and don’ts  along with what to expect before and after receiving the treatment.

What are lip fillers? Lip fillers, also called dermal fillers, are injections that give the lips a more aesthetic and full appearance. It’s also one of the most popular cosmetic procedures, along with Botox and face lifts. Here are some tips on how to prepare for fillers in order to avoid bruising and swelling.

How to Prepare for Fillers

Here are some tips on how to prepare for fillers. These steps ensure that the lip filler procedure is successful, so be sure to follow them closely.

  • Avoid blood thinning medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen (one week before the procedure is set to take place) and supplements like Vitamin E, garlic, ginseng, Ginkgo for at least 2 days prior.

  • Avoid products such as Retin-A, Retinoids, Retinol and other anti-aging products. (2 days prior).

  • Do not drink alcoholic drinks for 24 hours before the procedure. This step is very important since alcohol is a vasodilator that causes your blood vessels to dilate and become wider, meaning excessive bruising, bleeding, or inflammation, all of which can be avoided easily.

  • Ask your doctor before any procedure so it doesn’t conflict with any of your current medications, medical conditions, pregnancy, or allergies.

After lip filler treatment

After the lip dermal filler treatment, you can experience minor discomfort. Here are some things you can do, to help manage the discomfort and swelling.

  • Drink plenty of water and apply an ice pack.

  • Avoid itching or picking around the injection site. A little discomfort is normal, generally disappears within a few hours to a few days.

  • Avoid drinking alcohol, excessive and hard exercises for at least 24 hours.

  • Excessive salt intake should be avoided as it can lead to dehydration.

  • Do not massage massage the area

Lip fillers are temporary
