What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a cosmetic treatment that uses thin needles to trigger collagen formation. Collagen is a structural protein that builds your body’s tissues.

When you’re young, collagen keeps your skin firm, responsive, and tight. Collagen levels decline with age, causing your skin to sag, wrinkle, and become crepey. Microneedling devices contain tiny needles that puncture your skin and create micro-injuries that encourage new collagen production.

How does microneedling work?

When microneedling needles penetrate your skin, they leave micro-wounds that trigger your body’s natural healing response. This response sends new collagen fibers to repair the damage.

The injuries aren’t large enough to damage your skin’s surface or leave scarring, but they can promote skin renewal. As your skin heals, it becomes firmer, tighter, and more youthful.

Microneedling can target numerous skin concerns in a single treatment, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Stretch marks
  • Sun damage

Even if you don’t have any specific issues to address, microneedling can enhance your skin’s radiance for a brighter, more flawless complexion.

What can enhance microneedling results?

Colorado Skin Care offers platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to boost microneedling results. PRP is a blood component that contains protein-rich growth factors. When applied to the skin after microneedling, PRP can:

  • Stimulate collagen production
  • Improve skin texture and tone
  • Enhance overall skin rejuvenation
  • Accelerate healing and recovery
  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Minimize the look of scars and acne scars
  • Address pigmentation issues
  • Promote a more youthful and radiant complexion

While microneedling is effective on its own, adding PRP can enhance and accelerate your results.

What can I expect from microneedling with PRP?

Microneedling with PRP can take 45-60 minutes.

First, the team draws your blood and places it in a centrifuge to isolate the PRP. Next, they perform a microneedling treatment with the SkinPen device, creating tiny wounds on your skin’s surface. Finally, they apply the PRP to the injuries to enhance healing.

Many patients see improvements within two to three weeks of microneedling with PRP, while final results are visible about six weeks after your final treatment. You may need about three treatments to see your desired results.
